Some history
The "Rue de la Montagne" dates back to the early days of Brussels. The street forms part of the old trading route through Brussels that used to connect Flanders with Rhenanie. The street has seen traffic jams as early as the 15th century because it is relatively narrow. It also housed a number of hostels, where traders parked their barrows and carts. Even as early as then, traffic restrictions had to be imposed on traffic in the "Rue de la Montagne". Finally, on May 25, 1549, the city magistrate prohibited parking in the "Rue de la Montagne".
